* Save the Date: Talking to our Children About Race, March 23 6-8PM

Research shows that attitudes about race are largely set by the age of nine.

Research also shows that discussing differences helps children to appreciate diversity and to recognize discrimination.

How do we start this important conversation with our kids?

The PS10 Diversity Committee will host a workshop for PS 10 parents and our neighbors in District 15 to learn tools for speaking comfortably and confidently with our children about race. Let’s talk about real-life challenges and learn strategies to celebrate differences and empower everyone in our community.

Childcare (with pizza for the kids) will be available. Interpreter services available to Spanish, Chinese, Bengali and Arabic speakers.

Thursday, March 23rd, 6:00 – 9:00pm.

For more info, please contact: ps10diversity@gmail.com

THE DIVERSITY PROJECT is a year – long cultural exhibit highlighting ancestors within our PS 10 families who helped to define your family’s path. Maybe you have an ancestor who was the first to vote in US elections, graduate from college, or start a family business?

Email a brief story of 200 words or less telling us their name, date of birth/death and their story of trial, triumph and tribulation along with (1) a hi-resolution, scanned photo of your ancestor and (2) a hi resolution, scanned photo of your student to ps10diversityproject@gmail.com. No smartphone photos please. With your photograph, please submit a letter granting permission for use. Entries will be reviewed for inclusion in a year – long exhibit showcasing family stories and as coffee table book to be sold as a fundraiser. Second round of submissions are due March 24th.  Photo scanning support available.

Please participate!  What a powerful affirmation of inclusion this will be for our children! Email ps10diversity@gmail.com
