Author Visits coordinates school visits by published authors, funded by a generous grant from a PS10 grandparent. Last year every class at school experienced an author visit from one of a group of phenomenal authors. Contact them here The Candy & Magazine Sale is a PTA-sponsored fund-raiser. You can buy wrapping paper, magazine subscriptions & much more. Last year the PTA raised $3000 from this sale. The Events Committee oversees and coordinates all the fund-raising events that take place at school. They do fund-raising and planning for graduation as well as assist other parents in navigating the middle school application process. Contact them here. Grandparents Day is a wonderful day when grandparents are invited to come join the PS10 family for a special breakfast at school, visit to their grandchild’s classroom and go on a school tour. This year Grandparents Day is Tuesday October 11, and will kick-off Literacy Week. Email us here for more information. The Green Committee works closely with teachers, staff, and students to increase recycling at the school, and raise awareness of environmental issues in general. This year the cafeteria will continue composting and will begin using compostable lunch trays thanks to their initiative. They also educate families on maintaining their health and are also responsible for staffing the salad bar with parent volunteers. The Newsletter Committee produces a regular newsletter 3x year about what’s happening at P.S. 10 called ‘The News @ 10’. We are looking for writers and photographers to contribute this year. PS10 Rocks! is a fantastic, all-ages PTA-Sponsored fund-raiser/rock concert that takes place in March 2012. Contact (parent and) Afterschool Chair Mark Lauterbach. The PTA Store produces and sells P.S.10 t-shirts and other merchandise throughout the year. Read-a-thon is a (surprisingly lucrative) fund raiser as well as a great way to encourage kids to read. Contact Sally Minker to help out. The Recess Committee coordinates volunteers to help the school staff supervise the children on the playground and in the cafeteria at lunchtime recess. Recess itself exists only because of parent volunteers so this is essential. More info here. Save the Arts Silent Auction is our biggest event of the year and not to be missed. This year we will have amazing things on auction. November 18, 2011. The South Slope Holiday Craft Fair is Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011. This event is open to the whole Brooklyn community and it a fantastic place to do holiday shopping. We are assembling a diverse product line for your shopping pleasure, including jewelry, apparel, ceramics and more. Our Fair also features: scrumptious snacks from local eateries; a terrific raffle; and fun activities for kids. Student Art Auction takes place in the spring and is an event where collaborative artworks, created by the kids with Art teacher Mr. Joe, are auctioned off to raise money for the arts at P.S.10.
