The PTA Diversity Committee launches its “No Place for Hate” initiative this week. In an effort to have PS 10 designated as a “No Place for Hate” awardee by the Anti Defamation League, the PTA Diversity Committee will lead a series of school wide-activities reflecting, augmenting and celebrating inclusion. Read more about the ADL’s “No Place for Hate” designation and criteria here: http://www.adl.org/education-outreach/no-place-for-hate/

THE DIVERSITY PROJECT, the first of several “No Place for Hate” activities, is a year – long cultural exhibit highlighting ancestors within our PS 10 families – ancestors who helped to define your family’s path. Maybe you have an ancestor who was the first to vote in US elections, graduate from college, or start a family business?

Email a brief story of 200 words or less telling us their name, date of birth/death and their story of trial, triumph and tribulation along with (1) a hi-res, scanned photo of your ancestor and (2) a hi res, scanned photo of your student to ps10diversityproject@gmail.com. No smartphone photos please. By submitting photos, you are granting permission for use. Entries will be reviewed for inclusion in a year – long exhibit showcasing family stories and as coffee table book to be sold as a fundraiser. First round of submissions are due November 8th.  Photo scanning support available. Look for a flyer in your child’s folder this week.

Please participate!  What a powerful affirmation of inclusion this will be for our children!
