UPCOMING EVENTS

5TH GRADE MOVIE NIGHT (DESPICABLE ME 3) – TONIGHT
Bring the family to a fun movie night without breaking the bank. Entry is $4.00 per person. Concessions will include, soda, popcorn, juice, water, candy and hot dogs. All proceeds benefit the 5th grade committee. 

PTA GENERAL MEETING – January 18
The next PTA General meeting will be on January 18th after drop-off in the cafeteria at 8:30am. We will be voting on all the open PTA positions including Co-Secretary, New Parent Liaison and Translator. Nominations for this position will be taken from the floor during the next combined election/general membership meeting.

INTERNATIONAL POTLUCK DINNER – FRIDAY, JANUARY 26 – 6:30pm.
Please join us for this FREE community event. There will be international music, dancing, crafts, activities, entertainment and of course delicious food!  Have a dish that represents your culture or country? Please share! Bring your favorite “international” dish to share with the PS10 community while enjoying fun activities and entertainment for the whole family. We’ll supply the plates, bowls, napkins, forks and spoons.

We encourage families to show their cultural pride by dressing in the traditional costumes of their ancestry.  In addition, families contributing to our potluck dinner will automatically be entered into our special raffle, prize to be determined.

You do not need to contribute a dish to attend and the event is free to all families.

SAVE THE DATE READ-A-THON – FEBRUARY 2 – MARCH 2
The annual PS10 Read-a-thon, a huge fundraiser for the school and fun-filled month for all, is coming! Get ready to help students track their books and their minutes while gathering pledges for PS10. If you’re interested in helping with prizes, tallying, and communications, please come to the meeting on Thurs, Jan 11 in the library after drop-off or join the Read-a-thon committee via Konstella. AUTHOR COMMITTEE – 2ND GRADE AUTHOR VISIT – JANUARY 12 (TODAY)
PS10 welcomes Micol Ostow, author of the Louise Trapeze series, featuring adorable illustrations and spunky, sweet stories of one girl’s totally brave life in the circus. Every student in the second grade will have access to her books through their classroom, and the author herself visits with each class on January 12.

Budget Committee – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We need new parents to be seated on our Budget Committee, this committee reviews the yearly PTA budget and makes recommendations to the PTA Executive Board for setting the fiscal budget expectations for the year.  This is a critical committee that allows the PTA itself to function and plan according. The committee reviews prior year budgets, spending, income and gives recommendations for the following year. This committee may also review and revise the budget mid-year.

Treasurer Financial Assistant – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We’ve updated our accounting systems and it has created more work than we are able to process with our current treasurers alone.  The Financial Assistant role does bookkeeping across several of the PTA payment, processing, and accounting systems, and helps with the monthly reconciliation of items for accurate reporting. This is a work from home/spare time position that will require 3-4 hours per week. Prior bookkeeping experience is not needed. This is a great opportunity to see how the PTA works or chance to train for the  PTA Treasurer role.

REMINDER – S.T.E.A.M. FAIR – HELP NEEDED – CHAIRS AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – URGENT.
We need Chairs and volunteers for the 2018 S.T.E.A.M Fair. This is a community event for exhibitors, makers and inventors in the realm of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Please reach out to the PTA to help or to let us know about some fun science ideas we can share with our children at this family event!

REMINDER – REGISTRATION FOR THE 2018 PS10 TALENT SHOW IS NOW OPEN!
We’re excited to invite PS10 students in grades 2, 3, 4 & 5 to participate in the 5th Annual PS10 Talent Show on Saturday March 10, 2018!
* 2nd & 3rd Grade Show – 3:00 – 5:00 pm * 4th & 5th Grade Show – 5:30 – 7:30 pm *
To participate, each student needs to fill out a registration form and each act (solo or group) needs to sign up for one audition slot.

ONGOING ANNOUNCEMENTS

PS 10 GRAND READERS PROGRAM
Join us in the PS 10 Library on Thursday mornings to read with our students! All you need to do is show up! We welcome the gift of your time and attention. This event will be every Thursday from 8:30-10:30 AM. Don’t forget to bring your ID to enter the building.

USED LAPTOP DONATIONS NEEDED BY PS10 FACELAB COMMITTEE
FaceLab is a family engagement initiative that trains parent volunteers in K-8 schools to support teachers in leading hands-on robotics and technology activities with students. PS10’s FaceLab Committee is offering an EV3 Lego Robotics workshop to all 4th grade classes this year. Class 4-411 currently has 15 teams building robots that are ready to move into the programming stage but they do not have enough laptops available for all teams.
