Attendance & Lateness
Attendance is extremely important. If your child is ill and unable to come to school, please send a note of explanation, even if you have not visited a doctor, as all absences must be documented. In the case of a prolonged absence, please check with your child’s teacher about the best way to retrieve and turn in assignments. Students are responsible for making up missed instruction.

Children are expected to be at school NO LATER than 8:20am. 
Supervision is available from 7:30 am.
School Days: 8:20 am-2:40pm

It is advisable to have your student at the school FIVE MINUTES EARLY. Teachers take attendance promptly every day. Getting to school on time is extremely important, as children arriving late are disruptive to the other children and to teachers trying to start the instruction for the day. If children arrive later than the times stated above, they must report to the main office to get a late pass.

Backpack Mail
Flyers typically go home in your child’s backpack every day. You will find information from your classroom teacher(s), the administration and the PTA in your child's yellow folder. We also communicate through this website and Konstella, our communications system. Parking
Due to extreme traffic congestion on 7th Avenue, Prospect Avenue and 17th Street at school drop-off and dismissal, P.S.10 must inform all drivers that there is NO DOUBLE PARKING while picking up your children. Double parked cars on both sides of Prospect Avenue block traffic and create dangerous conditions for P.S.10 families as well as for other drivers. In order to avoid this problem, we suggest that you arrive early enough to find a curbside parking space near the school or take public transport. You risk a ticket of $150 if you park illegally.

Personal Property
All backpacks and outerwear must be labeled with your child’s name. The school is not responsible for lost or misplaced items. The Lost and Found is located in the school cafeteria. The P.S. 10 PTA has recently started a fund-raising program with a company called Mabel’s Labels. 20% of every purchase made through our Mabel’s PS10 page comes directly back to our PTA. Please consider purchasing these labels to keep track of your child’s belongings.

This booklet has answers to LOTS of questions parents may have about the school and the Parent Teacher Association. Copies are also available in the PTA office.

School Safety & Security
All our entrances will be monitored by school staff and/or our security guards. The entrance to the school is on 17th Street. Please familiarize yourself with the procedures for pick up and drop off.

All visitors & volunteers to the school must sign in and show photo identification at the security desk in the lobby to receive their visitors pass. Please wear your pass so that it is visible to others. It is essential for the safety of the children that we follow this protocol. After signing in, parents are allowed only on the first & second floors.

School Trips
During the year, classes enjoy field trips. Permission slips will be sent home in backpacks and children must have written permission to attend. Children are asked to wear their ‘yellow trip tees,’ which are for sale in the Room 210. Parents may also purchase a yellow trip t-shirt to wear when chaperoning on school trips.
