The PS10 Gladiators
The PS 10 Brooklyn Gladiators chess team meets weekly to learn and practice strategy and sportsmanship. We compete against the best schools in the state at tournaments all over the city. In 2016, our team placed 5th in our section at the Greater New York Scholastic Chess Championships, and our players have garnered dozens of individual trophies and chess awards between them. We were even featured on NY1 News once!
Originally formed under the guidance of PS 10 paraprofessional Arturo Pinder, the team is currently coached by Majur Juac, a national chess master profiled in the Washington Post. Coach Juac is assisted by John Mazzella. Students qualify for the team by participating in our annual in-house chess tournament.
