FaceLab is a DOE family engagement initiative that trains parent volunteers in K-8 schools to support teachers in leading hands-on robotics and technology activities with students. FaceLab’s goal is to create opportunities for teachers to work with parents to enrich students’ Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) education. The program also gives parents an opportunity to develop new skills.
A group of PS10 parent volunteers were trained and have offered this program to PS10 students for the past two years. This year, we are offering the EV3 Lego Robotics workshop to all 4th grade & 5th grade classes at PS10.
**WE NEED ADDITIONAL PARENT/GUARDIAN VOLUNTEERS TO HELP STUDENTS BUILD AND PROGRAM THE ROBOTS! NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. JUST HAVE A HEALTHY DESIRE TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW AND TO WORK WITH CHILDREN. YOU ARE NOT EXPECTED TO BE AN EXPERT. THE ONLY EXPECTATION IS THAT YOU LEARN AND DISCOVER AND WORK ALONGSIDE THE STUDENTS AND HELP GUIDE THEM TO FIND THE ANSWERS, NOT JUST TELL THEM THE ANSWERS. WE ENCOURAGE VOLUNTEERS TO SIGN UP FOR AS MUCH OF THE SESSION AS YOUR SCHEDULE ALLOWS FOR CONSISTENCY IN THE PROGRAM.**
